Luka Chuppi, Sonchiriya Box-Office Collection, Day 2: Kartik-Kriti Gallop Away, But Sushant-Bhumi Are Non-Starters
Two movies- Luka Chuppi and Sonchiriya with contrasting themes released on Friday. The former starring Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon in main roles is a light-hearted entertainer, while the latter is a dacoit drama. There was enough room for both the movies to do well individually, but unfortunately, Sonchiriya fails to make the cut, box-office wise.

Let’s start with Luka Chuppi. The movie which is made on an estimated budget of Rs 25 crore had a good opening of Rs 7.75 crore, highest till date for a Kartik Aaryan film. Now, as per Box-Office India, the second day numbers stand at Rs 9.75 crore which is damn good. That takes the total two-day business to Rs 17.50 crore. If the movie does even better on Sunday, then it will register a good opening weekend business.

Luka Chuppi is earning praises from both audiences and critics. SpotboyE.com Editor Vickey Lalwani rated the movie three stars. While he felt the first half was strictly okay, the second half won him over. “Every single frame after the break will make you ROFL. Hats off to Atul Srivastava (Kriti's father), Pankaj Tripathi (the colorful and quirky Babulal, who has a fascination for yellow), Aparshakti Khurana (Kartik's Man Friday). The lines are hilarious, the punches are crazy, the results are maddening. The film also smartly touches upon some relevant issues like election propaganda and our society's aversion to live-in relationships.”

Coming to Sonchiriya, unfortunately, it began on a disappointing note with just Rs 1 crore and the second day collections showed absolutely no growth with again a business of Rs 1 crore. So, that takes the total to Rs 2 crore which is quite disastrous for a movie made on an estimated budget of Rs 30 crore. The critics too haven’t termed it as a great dacoit film. SpotboyE.com Editor Vickey Lalwani rated the film 2.5 stars and said, “Fine, you are not going to get a dacoit drama like Sholay or Mera Gaon Mera Desh in today's times but Sonchiriya largely set against the backdrop of Chambal ravines, is fine as long you don't mind that your adrenalin doesn't flow and you are okay with Bundelkhandi language that you don't understand fully (thank God for the sub-titles). So Abhishek Chaubey's direction gets trapped in the Valley- you know what I mean.  Fine, you are not going to get the feet-tapping tunes of Sholay and Mera Gaon Mera Desh in today's times but Sonchiriya is fine as long as your a rare species to understand Varun Grover's lyrics (thank God again for the sub-titles). So, Vishal Bhardwaj's enchanting tunes remain in the jungles- you know what I mean.”

After the second day numbers, it’s quite evident that Luka Chuppi has hope, whereas Sonchiriya has miserably failed.
